Rob Nicholson New Cabinet Minister

Niagara Falls MP Rob Nicholson has recently been appointed new federal Justice Minister and Attorney General of Canada, according to this local news report.

That's bad news, at least for anyone remotely progressive. This guy is lightyears behind the status quo. Nicholson, a staunch neo-conservative, recently voted in favour of re-opening Bill c-38, the bill that legalized gay marriage in Canada. Of marriage, Nicholson said that union between one man and one woman is an "essential foundation of our society," and added, "speaking personally, I support the institution of marriage as it has been comprised for centuries in our society." Apparantly we now have a justice minister that is OPPOSED TO EQUAL RIGHTS!!!

Nicholson has also been applauded by pro-life groups for his opposition to abortion.

On 25 october 2006, Nicholson voted against bill C-257, which is a bill that would create federal anti-scab legislation, preventing strike-breakers from usurping the jobs of striking workers.

Is this really someone that was want as justice minister? He's opposed to gay marriage, opposed to a woman's right to choose, and doesn't support protecting workers.

Please add a Rob Nicholson defeat in the upcoming federal election to the top of my wish list.
