Popular Liberal Blogger Jim Curran Arrested

No, sadly it wasn't Liberal blogger Jason Cherniak, but James Curran (a.k.a 'The What Do I Know Grit') was arrested yesterday afternoon at his Portage Road real estate office in Niagara Falls, Ontario and charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000. However, Cherniak is reminding us that the Charter presumes innocence until guilt is proven. He doesn't tell us why he has specifically chosen to commemorate section 11 d) of the Charter, but it seems pretty obvious.

While Curran is indeed innocent until proven guilty, he has already dropped out of the running for the Liberal Party nomination (of which he was to be acclaimed) "for the sake of my family, the party and our members. Curran is also the president of the Niagara Falls Federal Liberal Riding Association. His blog has been taken down.

However, I'm not surprised that Curran is in trouble. He has been a trainwreck waiting to happen for some time. With rubbish like this, this, and this, it was only time before the train skipped of the tracks.

Again... as I seem to be stating at countless NDP blogs, I'm glad to see you guys all believe in the presumption of innocence.

How about you wait to see if he's found guilty or not before crucifying him?

obviously not the added publicity the liberals need (innocent or guilty); on the day The Liberal Party Launches Advertisements: Canadian Leadership to Meet the Challenge ...

Libloggers, particularly Cherniak, never gave Robert McClelland the benefit of the doubt either.

Besides, getting arrested for fraud is serious and where there's smoke, there's fire.

Scott, are you suggesting that the truth not be reported? I'msimply reporting the truth, James Curran was arrested.

Werner-touche regarding mcclelland...

look scott, it is what it is. Curran was arrested- as reported- and this incident, regardless of guilt or innocence, does not bode well for the local Liberals or for Curran's political career.

Have I presumed him to be guilty? Obviously not, hence my link to Cherniak's post regarding the charter.

Ask yourself this...was Curran arrested? Yes he was. Is this what I have reported? Yes it is. Is he guilt or innocent? He'll be in court on May 31st.

I can't remember Scott, but judging by this post I'm sure you scolded Jason Cherniak for spreading gossip alleging criminal acts by Olivia Chow - slurs about alleged acts that did not have the basis of actual criminal charges being filed against anyone.

You are consistent in your application of your great respect for the presumption of innocence, right Scott?

Robert McLelland made several racist, hateful statements publicly, on his blog, and on other people's blogs. Those blogs are now a matter of public record.

There is no comparison. There is no public information about the Curran case. The preliminary hearing has not been held.

The comparison is offensive.

Be careful what you write on your blog or allow to be posted. Libel applies to the Internet.

Exactly, James "Pipsqueak" Bowie. Robert's "offence" was much less serious than what's happening in this case, yet you people did not give him the benefit of the doubt and pounced on him and libelled him. Robert has enough to sue Cherniak, Kinsella and a bunch of other Libloggers if he wanted to.
